Professor Angelica Galvao, wife of Professor Andre Galvao, is the head women’s instructor here at Atos HQ. She’s been out of the competition scene for over two years, but this year she decided to jump back into it full force. Even after a long hiatus she hasn’t even skipped a beat.
First up was San Fransisco Open, just to knock the dust off. Angelica not only won her division, but then closed out the open class with teammate Luiza. She returned to training camp, and decided to also compete at Pan Ams.
Again, Angelica blew through the competition at Pan Ams winning her division. She closed out the division with teammate Luiza, who has brought new fire and motivation to Angelica since she began training at Atos HQ just a few short months ago. They are quite the dynamic duo, and together they have strengthened the already growing women’s team even more. Atos HQ is now home to three female black belts: Angelica Galvao, Luiza Monteiro, and Heather Raftery.
Next up was the Abu Dhabi World Pro. The World Pro is a huge week long competition, which offers massive cash prizes for its competitors attracting some of the best grapplers from around the globe. Angelica entered the 90kg weight division, over 50 pounds above her weight. She displayed fantastic strength and technique against her opponents, winning her finals match 8-2!
