1.Enhances Ability to Endure in Adverse Situations
It is one thing to loose in training, but a totally different feeling when you loose in competition. The desire to get that gold medal will push you further then you may have thought possible, and every time you push a little further your threshold goes up. It doesn’t get easier, but you start getting desensitized to the difficulty, and the impossible becomes more possible. This mindset adaptation comes from competition experience where your pride, and desire to win push you to perform at your best.
2.Highlights your Weaknesses:
Competition is the fastest way to find your flaws, and plug the holes in your game. It’s hard sometimes in the gym when you roll with the same people to see where your game is lacking, but when you compete you get immediate feedback, win or loose. It motivates you to get back into the gym so that you can perform better next time.
3.Boosts Training by Providing Short Term Goals:
It will help bring focus to your training. If you are preparing for a tournament it force you to look at your game, and come up with a strategy. When you are willing to invest money and time into a competition it gives you an added level of motivation to efficiently use the time you have to train. Any time you put in extra work for a competition it’s progressing you towards mastering your art faster, which all adds up over time.
