ADCC Vs. CJI: My thoughts… 🤔

“I know why you wear that leopard Speedo. Because all heroes wear Speedos. And if this tournament happens, you’ll be a hero.”

This is what I told Craig Jones a few days ago on a call.

For those who don’t know, back in the day, Craig Jones used to train at Atos headquarters when he was a Purple Belt.

He even fought the finals of Worlds against Rolando Samson.

And guess what? He got second place that year 😉

Even back then, Craig had a super sick, whizzer half guard triangle. The same triangle he did against Murilo Santana in ADCC 2017 back in Finland.

I truly believe that the CJI (Craig Jones Invitational) is amazing for the sport and I’m really happy about it.

In my opinion, I think it’s good for the sport to have more events so the fighters can make more money.

Just the fact that Craig Jones started paying fighters “show-up money” has already forced ADCC to make moves. ADCC also confirmed that they’re now paying “show up money” for the fighters, which is great!

(Before they used to pay just for tickets and for the hotel.)

ADCC started in 1998 and the prize money never changed…

The first place prize has always been $10,000. But $10,000 in 2024 is a LOT less than it was in 1998…

So yes, Las Vegas, Nevada will have a huge weekend of Grappling in August: ADCC, which is the most prestigious tournament in Grappling, and now CJI.

(According to Jitsmagazine.com: The Craig Jones Invitational (CJI) is scheduled to take place on August 16th and 17th, 2024, in Las Vegas, Nevada. This event is intentionally scheduled to overlap with the ADCC 2024, which is set for August 17th and 18th, 2024)

CJI is the first tournament ever introduced to pay one million dollars for the winner 👀

I can’t wait to know who’s going to make that prize, and also I can’t wait to know the new ADCC champions.

So congrats to Craig Jones for what he’s doing. And congrats to Mo Jassim for making the moves to make sure the athletes get paid.

They get paid – not only if they win, but also just to show up.

This can definitely change all the tournaments in the grappling world. Every time I see athletes getting paid well, I have joy in my heart.

God bless everyone who will be competing.

I’ll be in Vegas, watching and coaching my students.

P.S. I remember back in 2019 I told the entire BJJ community that I would like to get paid one million dollars to fight and many people just laughed at me!

I believe that idea planted the seed into the community and now we see it’s happening!
