Why are the BJJ Basics so Important?

It is essential for everyone training BJJ or starting BJJ to have a solid foundation in the basics.  If you have a solid foundation it will be easy to build on into more complex techniques, but if not you will have large holes in your game.  It will also be more difficult to learn the more complex moves without an understanding of the basics.  Even if you have been training for a long time it never hurts to revisit the basics.

Here at Atos HQ we require all of our brand new to BJJ members to start in the basics class.  They are required to stay in the class until they become a 3 stripe white belt, and then they can decide to stay or move into the more advanced class.  The basics class is also open to blue and purple belts who feel they need to revisit the basics or just want a review.
