Meet the Instructors

The depth of knowledge amassed by our instructors will be a great advantage to anyone who desires to learn the art of jiu jitsu. Jiu jitsu is a fun, safe and practical martial art that offers a full body workout while teaching highly effective self-defense skills that are applicable in a variety of real world situations.

 

Andre Galvao: Atos Jiu-Jitsu HQ Co-Founder & Head Professor

Prof. Andre Galvao teaches the 9 am Basics & Fundamentals Class, the Kids 8-13 YRS Class, and the 6:15 pm Fundamentals Class.

“I personally know many [people] that start training jiu-jitsu as a hobby and it changes their life for the better – better endurance, better flexibility. Life can be stressful and jiu-jitsu can help you regain balance.” – Professor André Galvão, on the benefits of jiu-jitsu.

 

Angelica Galvao: Head Women’s Only Professor

 

Prof. Angelica Galvao teaches the Women’s Only Class every Tuesday & Thursday at 5:45 pm.

“On the mats we are all the same, regardless of your social position, skin color, faith and beliefs. We may not speak the same language, but we can easily communicate with one another thanks to this beautiful art.” – Professor Angelica Galvão, on connecting via jiu-jitsu.

 

Josh Hinger: Kids 8-13 Class Professor & No-Gi Professor

 

Prof. Josh Hinger teaches the Kids 8-13 YRS Class and assists with the All Belts No-Gi Class every Tuesday & Thursday.

“I started jiu-jitsu on July 2, 2003 and never stopped training. I had one hiatus in 2008, when I was a blue-belt, where I was in the peace corps. Not doing jiu-jitsu for two-years, made me realize  that I love jiu-jitsu.” – Professor Josh Hinger, on when his jiu-jitsu journey started.

 

Michael Liera: Basic & Fundamentals Class Professor & Prof. Galvão Assistant

 

Prof. Michael Liera is a black belt under Prof. Andre Galvao and is his assistant in the 9 am Basic & Fundamental Class.

 

Nisar Loynab: Kid’s 5-8 Class Professor and Kid’s Competition Class

 

Prof. Nisar teaches the Kids Competition Class and the Kids 5-8 YRS Class.

“I got started when I was 16 years old, I was getting into some trouble in and out of school. My father wanted to offer me something [more beneficial] to occupy my time. Jiu-jitsu was what we found.” – Professor Nisar, on how he got started with jiu-jitsu. – Professor Nisar, getting started in jiu-jitsu.

 

Michael Carbullido: Kid’s 8-13 Class Professor & Basic Class Professor

 

Prof. Carbs teaches the Kids Competition Class, the Kids 8-13 YRS Class, and the 6:15 pm Basics Class.

“I’m very happy to have helped our team win various titles throughout the years. Teaching the kids is the passion I’m devoting myself to. I can’t wait for this coming new year. I cherish watching their development on and off the mats.” – Professor Carbullido, on teaching the kid’s program.

 

Michael Perez: Kid’s Class Professor & No-Gi Class

 

Prof. Perez teaches the Saturday Kids Class, and the 7:45 pm Basic No-Gi Class.

“This is a very special moment for me. I have been training since 2008, earning a black belt was always my goal end goal. Everyone contributed to this result, I have trained with each and every one of you, you made me better and vice-versa. We progress together.” – Professor Michael Perez

 

Dominique Bell: Basic & Fundamentals Class Professor & Prof. Galvão assistant

 

Prof. Dom teaches the 7:45 pm Basic Gi Class, and assists Prof Galvao in the 6:15 pm Fundamentals Class.

“I was very critical at first; however, I would look over [to the jiu-jitsu class] and see very small guys beating larger opponents. I go over one day, I pick a small guy, and I roll with him. He slaughters me, effortlessly. I couldn’t understand why. Afterwards, he taught me leverage and the principles of jiu-jitsu. I was hooked.” – Professor Dominique

 

Lucas Barbosa: Basic & Fundamentals Class Professor

 

Prof. Lucas teaches the 7:30 am Basic & Fundamental Class.

 

Adam Bradley: Basic & Fundamentals Class Coach

 

Coach Trab teaches the 6:15 am Basic & Fundamentals Class.

Jiu-jitsu is an art that allows me to show my personality. A painter will paint, a dancer will dance and I do jiu-jitsu. It allows me to express myself.” – Coach Bradley, on the art form of jiu-jitsu.

 

Ricky Briceno: Kid’s 3-5 Class Coach & Kids 5-8 Class Assistant Coach

 

Coach Ricky teaches the Kids 3-5 YRS Class and assists in the Kids 5-8 YRS Class.

“It was actually by accident and the first day I tried the class I was hooked because of the mental game and strategy that is required to become better. I love to challenge myself mentally and physically.” – Coach Ricky, on his introduction to jiu-jitsu.
